Madame Tinubu Was One Of The Biggest Slave Traders Of The Nineteenth Century & Was Extremely Wealthy And Powerful!

Madame Efunroye Tinubu

One of the most powerful people during the slave trade was Madame Efunroye Tinubu who was born in Western Nigeria in 1805. After the death of her first husband, her second husband was African Royalty & allowed her to gain political power & vast amounts of wealth. She eventually opposed the slave trade after discovering that slaves were not treated the same in Europe & the Americas the same as they were domestically in Africa. Madame Tinubu would trade slaves for guns & eventually became interested in trading palm oil, cotton & coconut oil. She had a private army that would protect her of about 300 slaves. There are statutes & places named after her in Africa because of her role in history & her fight against the British & other Europeans who took slavery to the next level.
