The Freedom Fighter Tupac Amaru Shakur Was Named After!

Peruvian Revolutionist Tupac Amaru II

Lesane Parish Crooks better known to the world as Tupac Amaru Shakur was named after the revolutionist from Peru Tupac Amaru II. The Peruvian is said to have been a direct descendant of Tupac Amaru the last monarch of the Inca Empire of Peru. Rapper Tupac was renamed nearly a year after his birth. Ironcially his life parallels pieces of the lives of both Peruvian heroes whom he carries with him in name. The last words of emperor Tupac Amaru before his execution at the hands of Spaniards were “…witness how my enemies shed my blood.” Those who are familiarized with the life of rapper Tupac know that phrases such as this were a part of his character and reflected his music.

The revolutionary Tupac Amaru II led a rebellion against the Spanish in 1780. Eventually he was captured after a few small victories. The Spanish captors offered him promises if he gave up his accomplices & he refused.  His response to his detainers was, “There are no accomplices here other than you & I. You as oppressor, I as liberator, deserve to die.” He was executed and his body was dismembered when tied to horses led in different directions. Each body part sent to a different jurisdiction. His head placed at the gate of the province his rebellion began.

Rapper Tupac was notoriously known for his passionate views of feeling oppressed and being the voice that liberated his people. The old adage most certainly applies, ‘the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree’. His name vibrated the life of his predecessors & like them both he suffered at the hands of execution. On April 7, 2017 he was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame!
